Gabriel Andrade - Graduate Resident Tutor (GRT)
Qué Onda? My name is Gabriel I. Castro-Andrade, a 3rd year Fellow and M.Arch Professional & Urbanism student in the MIT Department of Architecture. I come from Orange, New Jersey, specifically the Valley, a neighborhood defined by low-income immigrants who have mastered the art of making gold from scraps.
I am coming as a Questbridge Scholar with a Bachelor in Architecture (with Concentration in Empathic Design and Cybernetic Environments) from the University of Virginia. In undergrad, my focus was on Empathic methods and accessibility, manifesting in my research at the Smart Environments; along with my leadership at the National Organization of Minority Architects @UVA and the Raven Society.
Before my graduate studies, I worked as an educator, designer, and consultant across design specialties and sectors working in New York and Virginia. Now while I still do my design and consultancy work, my main focus is here with the brotherhood of CC as their new GRA. I am here to be the brother's emotional, social, mental, and academic support for their highs and lows throughout the year.
When I'm not designing; you can catch me bumping music, lifting, reading, and drawing lines.
